Doula!  Maybe the best way to define a doula is by the Greek word from which the term comes:  δούλος.  Slave.  Servant.  Maidservant. A doula is a servant to a laboring mother, there to help her achieve the best possible birth experience as the mother sees it.  There to provide non-judgmental, non-medical, continuous emotional and physical support, a doula is a tremendously important companion to a laboring woman.
